Tips To Make Buying And Keeping Health Insurance Easier

Do you have questions about your policy that you would like to ask? You can always reach your health provider with a simple phone call. All of the major insurance companies have excellent customer service representatives who will help you. The representatives manning those phone lines can give you particular facts that might save you dollars and stress.

No premiums for health insurance are set in stone, the customer is allowed to pick what they would like and not like in their plan. You can pick and choose from having doctor office co-payments, dental coverage or even coverage for eye exams and corrective lenses. Keep in mind that you will pay more in premiums depending on how many policy benefits you opt to include.

If you already have preferred doctors, then look for a plan that includes them. Your costs will be higher if your doctor is not in your network, or you might decide to look at different carriers.

Know that the costs of having health insurance may not be limited to the amount of money you pay in monthly premiums. On most insurance plans, there is a fixed amount that you are responsible for paying every time you visit a hospital or doctor. Determine what your co-pays will be before you decide on a plan to ensure you’re getting the best deal.

One easy way to get a lower health insurance rate is to take a higher deductible. If you will increase your deductible, you can significantly lower your health insurance premium. If you get sick or in an accident, you will be required to pay a higher amount than you would if you had kept higher premiums.

Doing your homework is key before buying a catastrophic health insurance policy. Be sure that the insurance will include coverage for the catastrophic events you have concern over. After you have made a decision, make deposits into your savings account to cover the deductible.

If your credit is good, you have a better chance at getting lower premiums. If your credit is bad, your premiums will likely be higher. You may be totally refused coverage by the insurance company. Think about repairing your credit prior to seeking new medical coverage.

Keep track of your prescription coverage. Insurance companies will revise their rules regarding prescriptions on a yearly basis, so take the time to read the new rules before you re-enroll. If your medication isn’t covered anymore, you may want to look for another insurance company.

An option you have when getting a prescription from your doctor is to ask him to double the dose he prescribes. Often, buying pills in larger doses does not significantly increase the cost so you may be able to save money by cutting the pills in half. Your pill splitter will be paid for in no time.

Many insurance companies will offer “wellness benefits” in the form of either direct discounts or premium reductions. A lot of health plans now offer you a discount at gym memberships, smoking classes and other healthy lifestyle opportunities. You can lower your health insurance premiums by participating in these benefits.

Before you purchase health insurance you must do your calculations and understand what will be covered for what you pay every year. Take into account all costs, such as your monthly premium, deductibles, co-pays and any other fees. Before purchasing health insurance, be sure that you are choosing the best plan for your needs.

If you’re considering an HMO, check to see if your doctor is in the network. Switching doctors may be aggravating when switching health insurance companies, but you can avoid it if you check to see if the doctor is in that network prior to switching.

Take advantage of any free trial offer that your insurance company might make. Many insurance companies allow a brief tryout time, during which you can cancel and receive a refund if you so choose. Should you discover that the policy is not right for you, it will be possible to cancel within that time period and get your money back.

When purchasing a new policy, it is essential that you research the rates at multiple companies. The beauty of private insurance is that you have the choice of many different companies and plans. Compare the options that are most fitted to your health care needs.

The way you manage your health care insurance may actually earn you tax breaks around April. Few people understand that health insurance premiums are tax-deductible. The money you pay for deductibles, visits or prescriptions that aren’t covered by insurance are also deductible. State taxes differ than federal, so you may want to check those guidelines.

If you deal with a pre-existing health condition, check with a number of companies prior to enrolling with one for health insurance. Some insurance companies will not offer you coverage because of your pre-existing condition, while others will charge very high amounts for coverage. Doing your research ahead of time is the best way to get a good rate.

Because of interstate commerce laws there are regulations on private insurance companies which prevent them from selling insurance across state lines. If you end up in a hospital outside your state, you might not be covered. Make sure you read your policy carefully to know what to expect.

If you have certain diseases, you may have a difficult time finding affordable health insurance, and a vegetarian diet may help you prevent such diseases. Many nutritionists agree that year after year of poor diet choices can significantly increase your risk of developing chronic conditions. The expense of treating diet-related diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease and stroke are astronomical over time. Your chance of developing a lifelong disease or condition can be greatly reduced by what you eat. A vegetarian diet, for example, can lessen your chances of developing many chronic conditions. Insurers are beginning to recognize the benefits of vegetarianism, too. A diet such as this can help you live a healthier life, and also lower your health insurance costs.

Tips To Becoming A Successful

5 Tips to Becoming a Successful Insurance Agent

Waiting on the phone to ring and writing a good insurance package for your clients isn’t enough in today’s world of competing insurance companies. With just a few tips, you can easily rake in six figures with a plan, dedication to your profession and hard work.

Education

Perhaps your life has not always been geared toward selling insurance but that doesn’t mean that you cannot be the best once this is the road you wish to take. Business classes and insurance seminars are a must to learn the business and to stay on top of the challenges that insurance companies face. Never stop studying and knowing what is coming down the road so you can make the best choices for your clients.

Select a Focus

Don’t just offer a variety of homeowners, health, life or medical types of coverage but take one area and really hit it hard. Specializing in a particular insurance coverage will not only build a reputation among those that you have written but will also give you unlimited opportunities to educate the public and to pick up more business. Focus on professional organizations, offering free seminars and speaking to groups of employees and share your knowledge of what they need to know about your selected area of insurance. Your students will always remember certain facts and know where to turn.

Marketing

A business card is nice but never let the fish get away! Jot down ideas throughout the month and deliver monthly newsletters to all of your prospects by email or brochures through the mail. Make your information entertaining and resourceful so that possible and existing clients will look forward to your presentation every month.

Offer Choices

Many individuals do not appreciate an insurance agent telling them that only one policy is right for them. People like to be involved in the process, especially with something as personal as insurance. Select three separate plans that are appropriate for your client and allow them to be a part of the final decision. They will walk away with a new plan and feel good about knowing that it is the best for their needs.

Get Personal

Insurance is a business that requires discretion and being able to win a client’s trust. It is difficult for your insured to trust you with their needs when they never see you. Always have a planner and keep it filled with appointments to meet with your existing clients at least twice a year. If your schedule becomes overwhelming, make a phone call. Any type of personal contact is better than none.

Learn to stay involved with the people who are paying you for a service and they will send their friends and neighbors to you. Many businesses do not even have a face behind a policy today and soon wonder why clients are not loyal to good coverage from their insurance company.

If you follow the above tips, I have no doubt you will become a successful insurance agent. All that is left is for you to execute.

Ten Financial Tips For Widows

Ten Financial Tips For Widows

It’s unfortunate, but many elderly women are often lost once their husbands die. Unfamiliar with the money aspects of life, they are paralyzed by their own inactions or become easy prey for “financial advisors” and other shady characters who do not have their best interests at heart.

Here are ten financial tips for widows. Pay attention, as the financial health of someone you love could be at stake.

Going It Alone in Financial Matters?

All too often, many elderly widows either opt or are forced to go it alone regarding money matters. If there are trusted family members ? sons, daughters, brothers, et al. ? who can help with organizing the finances, then by all means seek their assistance and/or advice. The key word here of course is trusted. Do you feel comfortable taking financial advice from a son or daughter? A good indicator is how they have conducted their own lives in the past. Have they been responsible or irresponsible?

Life Insurance Payouts

One of the biggest financial shocks experienced by many widows are life insurance payouts. Unbeknownst to many widows, their husbands may have borrowed money from their life insurance policies, leaving very little to the beneficiary. Also, life insurance policies are often paid out not by lump check but through an account. MetLife, for example, will issue a Total Control Account for any significant payout. An agent will deliver the said money market account in person and will also make his/her pitch for various investments via mutual funds. Beware of investing in these funds, as they carry high sales loads (commission rates) of 5% or higher. That means if you invest, say, $ 50,000 of your life insurance proceeds, $ 2,500 immediately comes off the top as the salesman’s commission.

Trading in the Big Car

Many widows make the mistake of holding on to their deceased husband’s car too long. It’s probably an emotional commitment, not wanting to depart with their spouse’s beloved Cadillac or New Yorker. The problem is these vehicles are expensive, gas-eating cars with expensive parts and costly repair jobs. Don’t be afraid to trade in the big car while it still has value for something more manageable and economical. Don’t be like one widow, who held on to her late husband’s big Chrysler until it literally fell apart.

Adjust the Car Insurance

Immediate car insurance savings can be realized by adjusting the annual mileage. You and your husband may have racked up a lot of mileage in the past, taking trips and the like. But now, you may use your car only in town or for the odd trip out of town. On your State Farm auto insurance policy, to cite one company’s example, look to the left-hand column for the heading “Ordinary use of vehicle.” If you are driving your car 7,500 miles or less annually, call your agent and advise him/her of this new development. You will save money on your premiums.

Investments: Certificate of Deposits (CDs)

The bank CD ? or certificate of deposit ? remains one of the principal investments for many older people. One of the biggest mistakes made is automatically taking the rate at the local bank, as if it’s a matter of customer loyalty or some such nonsense. The tellers and everyone else may be nice and courteous, but this is business, ladies, and it pays to shop around for the highest CD rate in the USA. And where are they? Just head to sites such as bankaholic.com or bankrate.com, where the heavy hitters ? Ally Bank, MetLife Bank, Internet Bank of USA, et al., ? offer the top rates. And if your local bank asks why you’re not renewing your CD? Tell them honestly, and politely ask if they would care to match the higher rate since they value your business so much. Well, so much for their loyalty!

Investments: Mutual Funds

Nothing against traditional brokerage houses, but when it comes to investing in mutual funds, they will offer nothing but load funds ? the ones with the juicy sales commissions tacked on like low-hanging fruit. Generally, the sales load is anywhere from 3% to 6%. That’s quite a hole to start with, as a mutual fund with a 4% sales load for an initial investment of $ 10,000 will start you out at $ 9,600. That’s right, you just lost $ 400 right off the top. T. Rowe Price, Fidelity, Vanguard and other companies offer no-load mutual funds and are worth exploring.

Combine Home and Auto Insurance

Home and car insurance can often be obtained from the same company, resulting in a major discount. The AARP/The Hartford insurance policies are an excellent example, with consumers reporting significant savings when they combined their home and auto insurance through The Hartford brand. State Farm, Allstate, Liberty Mutual and a number of other insurance companies also offer the same deal.

Car Repair Scams

Car repair scams affect us all, but widows seem to be especially vulnerable. Several scams in this venue stand out, namely informing a customer that their perfectly good serpentine belt needs to be replaced or the old “your wheel is about to fall off,” the latter of which involves the costly installation of a new hub bearing assembly. Serpentine belts do crack and wear out, but ask to see the old belt and inspect it for yourself. For any major repair jobs, always get a second opinion, and keep quiet about what the first repair shop told you. Let the second mechanic perform his own diagnosis. There are honest car repair shops out there, so ask friends and family for their personal recommendations.

Avoid the Money Scams

Financial scams come in all shapes, sizes and denominations. Particularly at risk are the elderly, many of whom succumb to phony lotteries, penny stock offerings, charity ruses and other swindles via the U.S. mail, email or telephone. Please don’t become a victim. Immediately delete, trash or hang up on all questionable offers of this nature.

Charitable Donations

Only give what you can afford, whether it be to your church, alma mater or some other cause. It’s perfectly okay to say no and remain guilt-free. Any time you feel pressured to donate, step back, take a deep breath and decline the offer to part with your money. In situations like this, the old tried-and-true novelty T-shirt “What Part of ‘No’ Don’t You Understand?” can work wonders.

Vacant Home Insurance Tips

Vacant Home Insurance Tips

Have you been thinking about getting vacant home insurance? Here are a few tips that can help reduce the rate you pay for your vacant house insurance.

Increase you Deductible- If you increase the deductible you pay on your insurance then you will pay less for insurance. Say for example that you are currently paying $ 200 for you deductible, if you were to raise that premium to $ 400, then the insurance provider would give you a discount. The higher the deductible the bigger discount you can get. Be careful about having a deductible that is too high because you will have to pay out it before you can get your claim.

Securing your House- By securing your property most insurance companies can give you a discount up to 20%. They usually require you to install security systems that are pre-approved for the insurance company’s. This makes it less likely that you will have a thief break into your house or fires occur without the emergency response being notified.

You should also look at keeping fire extinguishers or other safety devices available for case of an emergency. This may cost you money; however, it will be worth it in the long run.

Deduct Land Value- When you are valuing your house, make sure that you deduct the land value from the appraisal price. You do not need to worry about insuring your land because there isn’t much risk in losing it.

Search for a Deal- The final thing you should do when getting vacant home insurance is start looking around. By searching for a good deal, you can ensure that you get a good price for your insurance. Be sure to get at least 3 comprehensive quotes from insurance companies before making your decision.

If you need Vacant Home Insurance then you should look around online for the Best Rates Available.
